Miken Builders has become accustomed to racking up Delaware Homebuilders Regal Awards for excellence in business. However, recently, Martin Blackburn earned his first Superintendent of the Year award to add to the company’s trophy case.
“Very proud of Martin,” said Miken CEO Mike Cummings. “We wanted to submit Martin as superintendent of the year because, No. 1, he deserves it and we’re lucky that is he just so committed to Miken Builders and what we’re trying to do in the community here at the beach.
“We give Martin the most difficult jobs that we have. I can’t say enough about his dedication and his commitment to quality for the client and for the company. We’re very, very lucky to have him on our team.”
After 14 years with the company, Blackburn is, of course, proud of the achievement, but at the end of the day he said he considers it an award for the entire team and also considers himself lucky to be a part of that team doing what he loves to do.
“It’s awesome, very humbling. I truly appreciate it, because a lot of good superintendents do a really good job,” Blackburn stated. “I’ve been lucky my whole life. I do what I like. I love it.”
“Martin is very humble. He considers this an award for all of us,” Cummings added. “It’s everybody working together to get a home or a commercial building done on time and on budget.”
The company also won an award for Best Kitchen Remodel for a project in Bethany Beach, just a year after winning Best Remodel Addition Under $500,000 and Best Condo Remodel for a project at the beach in Sea Colony.
But their success isn’t just measured by their excellence on job sites and above-and-beyond customer service, it’s also measured by their service to the surrounding community, as well.
“We’re very community-oriented, as far as giving back. It’s part of our business plan,” Cummings said. “We never stop learning and trying to get better. That’s our philosophy. Our goal is to exceed our clients’ expectations. We’re more apt to build a relationship than to just build a building or a house. We’re a very referral-based business. You’re only as good as the last job you did.”
It’s those principles that have earned Miken Builders past awards, including the Torch Award for integrity, community service and commitment to clients.
